The Team at Migrant Legal Aid

Migrant Legal Aid is fortunate to not only have a solid team of professional staff in the office, but that it also can rely on the assistance and generosity of its volunteers and interns to help MLA expand beyond, from organizing fundraisers and events, to traveling to migrant camps.

Lina herrera

Community Impact and Event Lead

Lina Herrera is the Community Impact and Event Lead at Migrant Legal Aid. She makes sure that events are well-run and aligned with mission outcomes and measurable community impact. She builds relationships with community members, partners, sponsors, and volunteers. Lina oversees MLA events such as Harvest of Justice and Cup of Justice which she considers as big opportunities to let people know what MLA is about, and how we help migrant and seasonal farmworkers.
She was born in Colombia and holds a bachelor’s degree in modern Languages where she found her interest in helping people by providing education access. Lina has been in the US for about 4 years. As the years passed, she felt she could do more for the community and reached out to us to Migrant Legal Aid. Her Spanish proficiency has been fundamental for the organization; there is a language barrier that she helps to reduce while connecting them with services. She enjoys learning and is ready to handle different tasks accordingly. Lina enjoys quiet days and doing little creative activities. She is passionate about books written by women and hopes to be able to host book clubs in the future.

Jennifer gomez-Pedraza

Office Administrator

Jennifer Gomez-Pedraza is pursuing a degree in Social Work at Grand Valley State University. As a first-generation college student and the proud daughter of immigrant parents who worked tirelessly as farmworkers, Jennifer was more than happy to be involved in an organization that helps the migrant farmworker community. Her journey at Migrant Legal Aid began when she applied for MLA’s summer internship. This experience of important casework, paired with visiting camps in Michigan, sparked a future interest in working for non-profit organizations that prioritize direct interactions with the community and fight for social justice. Jennifer believes that immersing yourself in the same environment as your clients is necessary to make personal and or systematic changes.
Jennifer enjoys spending time with her loud and energetic family and watching new movies at the theatre while enjoying a bucket of popcorn with extra butter.
